Turning food into gas is one of the easiest ways to reduce the environmental impact of food waste, watch how it’s done in Denver in this film.
Turning food into gas is one of the easiest ways to reduce the environmental impact of food waste. The thing is that if we just throw away our food waste and bury it in a landfill the waste will still produce gas. This is the normal order and how the organic matter breaks down.
So the more food waste we throw out the more gas we are going to releasing into our atmosphere. There are two solutions to this problem. First buy only the food you are going to eat. Make sure the gas produced doesn’t get released into the atmosphere.
We can all help with the first part, buy less, eat what you’ve got, don’t cook more than you will eat. In this video you can see how this Colorado company can help with the second part.
There are many similar plants like this in many parts of the world, in Sweden where I live producing biogas with the help of food waste is not a new thing. But food waste is a global problem so the more places like this one in Colorado we can get the better.
The film is made by The Perennial Plate and it explains the whole process. The Perennial Plate have made a whole series of great videos so it could be a good idea to browse through some of their earlier stuff as well.
